Yukon Nominee Program

The Yukon Nominee Program was developed to allow the Government of Yukon to nominate potential immigrants based on industrial and economic priorities and labour market conditions; and who, based on Yukon’s assessment, have a strong likelihood of successfully establishing themselves in Yukon society.

There are three programs the Yukon Nominee Program offers:

  • The Skilled Worker Program
  • The Critical Impact Worker Program
  • The Business Program
Skilled Worker Program

Eligibility criteria under Skilled Worker program:

  • The employer must be a registered business, industry association or a local, municipal, First Nation or Territorial government in Yukon that has been registered and operational for a minimum of one year.
  • Except for those occupations included in the Skills Shortage List, the employer must verify the need for the position and provide proof that they have tried to recruit locally and nationally to fill the position
  • The offer of employment must:
    • Be for a permanent full-time position.
    • Be in a trade or skill that falls into skill levels O, A or B of the National Occupational Classification Matrix
    • Must not conflict with existing collective bargaining agreements
    • Must meet the minimum requirements of territorial labour standards and must provide a comparable industry rate of pay
  • The nominee must
      • Have the required certification or accreditation for the specific trade or occupation
      • Be licensed or accepted by the Territorial body governing for the occupation or trade, if applicable
      • Be able to conduct basic communications in either English or French, depending on the official language of the work place

    Not be a refugee claimant

Critical Impact Worker Program

Eligibility criteria under Skilled Worker program:

  • The employer must be a registered business, industry association or a local, municipal, First Nation or Territorial government in Yukon that has been registered and operational for a minimum of one year
  • The employer must verify the need for the position and provide proof that they have tried to recruit locally and nationally to fill the position
  • The offer of employment must
    • Be permanent full-time position
    • Be in a trade or skill that falls into skill level C or D of the National Occupational Classification Matrix. These occupations usually require secondary school and/or occupation-specific training or on-the-job training
    • Have not conflict with existing collective bargaining agreements
    • Must meet the minimum requirements of territorial labour standards and must provide a comparable industry rate of pay
  • The nominee must:
    • Have a temporary work permit and have worked in the position for six months OR obtain a score of 45 or better on the Pre-Assessment
    • Prove sufficient financial supports or settlement supports in Yukon
    • Have the required work experience for the specific occupation
    • Be able to conduct basic communications in either English or French, depending on the official language of the work place
    • Not be a refugee claimant
Business Nominee Program

Yukon is seeking people with at least five years business experience who can start a new business, partner with an existing business, or purchase and operate an existing business in order to enhance the production and marketing of goods, services, exports, technology or research in the priority sectors.

Eligibility
  • The applicant must invest a minimum of C$150,000 equity into starting or buying a business in Yukon
  • The applicant must have a personal net worth of at least C$250,000
  • Have a reasonable knowledge and understanding of Yukon and its economy
  • Reasonable communication skills
  • Necessary experience and education to implement the business plan
